The Perambra police on Friday (July 3, 2026) arrested five persons, including three women, after they allegedly attacked members of the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) and turned aggressive towards residents during a flash vehicle inspection at Pandikkode near Perambra, which led to the seizure of suspected MDMA.
The arrested persons were identified as Mohammed Afreed, 27, of Perambra; C. Shamseer, 27, of Kozhikode; T. Fathima, 19, of Palakkad; Sneha, 20, of Nilambur; and S. Sangeetha, 19, of Kollam. Police sources said more than two grams of suspected MDMA were recovered from the car in which the accused were travelling.
The five were later taken into custody and booked in connection with the seizure and the alleged attack on the anti-narcotics squad. According to the police, residents alerted the authorities after noticing an altercation involving the group in the village.
A senior police officer said the three women in the group allegedly abused and threatened residents who tried to intervene, while the two men allegedly attempted to attack members of the DANSAF squad. Additional personnel from the Perambra police station reached the spot and arrested the five.
Police sources said Mohammed Afreed had figured in several drug trafficking cases in the past and was suspected of drawing others into the illicit trade. Further investigation is under way to ascertain the source of the seized drug and the group’s involvement in drug trafficking networks.
A local body member from the area said Perambra and its surrounding areas had been facing the growing menace of drug peddlers for several years. The member alleged that repeat offenders were targeting youngsters and attempting to lure them into the drug trade.
