Two police officers attached to the Thirumullaivoyal police station were arrested on Wednesday (July 1, 2026) by officers of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 from a spa owner.
Jennifer, who runs a licensed beauty parlour and spa on CTH Road in Thirumullaivoyal, had allegedly come under police scrutiny following complaints that the establishment was operating without permission and that illegal activities were taking place there.
On June 20, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Bakkiyalakshmi inspected the premises. She instructed Jennifer to shut the establishment and appear at the Thirumullaivoyal police station.
When she visited the station the following day, Sub-Inspector Bakkiyalakshmi and Special Sub-Inspector Amul allegedly demanded a monthly bribe of ₹50,000 to allow the business to continue operating without any interference. On June 30, Jennifer reportedly returned to the police station and negotiated the amount, offering to pay ₹20,000 initially.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, Jennifer approached the Tiruvallur Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) office on Wednesday morning and lodged a complaint. Based on the complaint, a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police from DVAC handed Jennifer chemically treated currency notes worth ₹20,000 and asked her to hand them over to the accused officers.
During the trap proceedings, Jennifer reportedly handed over the tainted money to Special Sub-Inspector Amul inside the Thirumullaivoyal police station on Wednesday afternoon. DVAC officials caught Amul red-handed, and Sub-Inspector Bakkiyalakshmi was also arrested in connection with the case.
Both were booked under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act and lodged in the Central Prison after being produced in a court.
