Consumption of petrol and diesel increased 7% and 5.52% respectively in June this year on a year-over-year basis whilst that of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) dipped marginally by 0.6%, according to latest provisional data from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC).

June was the first complete month following the average ₹7.5 per litre hike in prices of both petrol and diesel that was done across four tranches.

The latest of these hikes was imposed on May 26.

According to the provisional data, about 3.77 million metric tonnes (MMT) of petrol was consumed in June this year, compared to 3.52 MMT in the same month last year.

Consumption of diesel stood at 8.55 MMT in June this year, higher than 8.105 MMT in the comparable period last year.

Jet fuel consumption, on the other hand, dipped marginally to about 0.73 MMT in the reported month.
