The Centre has decided to remove restrictions on petrol and diesel sales, including the 200 litre per person per day cap on sale of diesel, effective July 1.

In an order issued on June 11, 2026, the Government had barred industrial and commercial consumers from purchasing petrol and diesel from retail outlets and directed them to source it from dedicated supply channels only.

The Government had said that the directive sought to arrest an “uneven extraordinary demand growth” in some retail outlets that is stemming from consumers of bulk diesel increasingly turning to state-owned oil-marketing companies’ retail outlets.

More details to follow..
