U.S. President Donald ‌Trump on Sunday (June 28, 2026) surveyed several of his construction projects around the nation’s capital, suggesting afterward that his redevelopment of the East Potomac Golf Links would enable it to host a premier tournament.

The U.S. President also said that the National Mall reflecting pool ‌is now “in full use” ‌after being ‌damaged and work would begin in September on a golf ‌course in Washington that will be open ‌to the public.

“We will build one of the Greatest ‌Golf Courses anywhere in the World which, importantly, will also ‌be made available to the Public,” Mr. Trump said in a Truth Social post. “When completed, this Course will have the ability to host Major Golf Tournaments, including The U.S. Open, The Ryder Cup, The PGA Championship, and other top PGA Tour events.”

Mr. Trump toured the course with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, various aides and the golf course architect Tom Fazio and his son, Gavin Fazio. The president’s redevelopment of the course is subject to a lawsuit in U.S. District Court.

Mr. Trump complained in his post about the condition of the grass and the sprinkler system for the public golf course, but debris from the demolition of the White House East Wing has also been dumped on the grounds. The National Park Service said last month that the debris tested positive for lead, chromium and other toxic metals.

Trump said in his post that work on the golf course would begin on Sept. 1. The president also toured updates to Lafayette Park on the north side of the White House and had his motorcade drive around where he plans to build a triumphal arch.
