A Delhi court on Sunday remanded dermatologist Manish Gupta in judicial custody for 14 days in connection with the murder of his domestic help at his East of Kailash residence.
Delhi Police on Friday sought two days’ custody of Mr. Gupta to recover the clothes worn during the offence and gather additional evidence.
Allowing the petition, the court directed the police to conduct the accused’s medical examination and produce him before the Duty Magistrate after the custody period.
On completion of the two-day police remand, Mr. Gupta was sent to judicial custody.
The case came to light on June 18 when Mr. Gupta was found beside the body of Mina Haldar, 58, at his residence. A neighbour had alerted the police after noticing her lying in a pool of blood.
According to the police, Mr. Gupta had admitted to the killing during the initial inquiry.
Police said a bat allegedly used to bludgeon the house help and a knife suspected to have been used to slit her throat were recovered from the house. Haldar, a native of Kolkata, had worked for the family for 16 years.
