A 26-year-old man was detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel after he allegedly causing a commotion at the Avadi railway station by entering a coach reserved for women and refusing to leave.
Following counselling and verification of his background, he was released into the care of his parents.
The individual is from Kozhikode in Kerala, and had previously worked for an IT firm in Ambattur. He had been reportedly unemployed for the past six months.
Railway officials said he had been experiencing mental health problems and had been frequently seen in the Ambattur, Avadi, and Thirumullaivoyal localities in recent weeks.
The incident took place on Platform No. 2 at Avadi railway station when he boarded a women’s compartment of an electric multiple unit (EMU) train that was scheduled to move to the depot.
Despite repeated requests from passengers to vacate the coach, he allegedly declined to do so and engaged in verbal altercations with those on board. Alerted by commuters, railway police and RPF personnel rushed to the spot and instructed him to step out of the compartment. Authorities said he continued to argue even after officers intervened.
