Posted on June 20, 2026 By admin

A total of 87,357 children in the district will be administered polio drops during the intensive pulse polio immunisation programme to be conducted on June 28 (Sunday).

In a statement, District Collector Ranjeet Singh said no case of poliomyelitis had been reported in the country for the past 15 years thanks to the intensive pulse polio immunisation programme being conducted across the country at regular intervals. Hence, the next round of pulse polio immunisation drive would be conducted across India on June 28.

In Tenkasi district, 87,357 children would be covered during this drive through 869 camps to be set-up in the government hospitals, primary health centres, health sub-centres, Shencottai, Tenkasi and Sankarankovil Railway Stations, bus-stands of Tenkasi, Puliyangudi, Kadayanallur, Thiruvenkatam, Kadayam, Shencottai, Sankarankovil, Alangulam, Paavoorchathram and Surandai, brick kilns, sugarcane fields, hamlets near the Gadana, Ramanadhi, Karuppanadhi, Adavinainarkovil and Gundar dams and in the Western Ghats and near the Old Courtallam Waterfalls, Main Falls and Five Falls to cover the children of the tourists coming to Courtallam.

Children between the age of 0 and 5 would be administered polio drops on June 28 and door-to-door campaign organised for next seven days to give polio drops to the uncovered children on June 28.

“Children below the age of 5, who had already been given polio drops should also be given the drops on June 28 to save them from poliomyelitis,” Mr. Ranjeet Singh said.

A total of 3,476 persons including 383 personnel from Department of Public Health, 1,243 nutritious meal scheme workers, 1,850 volunteers would be involved in this drive. Hence, the parents of the children below the age of 5 should cooperate with them for administering polio drops to their children, Mr. Ranjeet Singh appealed.
