Forum seeks probe into ‘irregularities’ at Sanskrit varsity

Forum seeks probe into ‘irregularities’ at Sanskrit varsity

Posted on June 18, 2026 By admin

The Save University Campaign Committee (SUCC) has written to the Governor Rajendra Viswanath Arlekar, who is also the Chancellor of State universities, seeking a probe into the alleged irregularities in the financial affairs and faculty appointments at the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS), Kalady over the last 10 years.

The SUCC urged the Governor to entrust the Comptroller and Auditor General to hold a comprehensive inquiry into the alleged irregularities. Some of the irregularities referred to in the letter submitted to Mr. Arlekar include misuse of funds, faculty appointments (both permanent and guest faculty members), admission to PhD and other programmes, and alleged corruption in the construction of student amenities centre and auditorium on the main campus.

Meanwhile, the Left-affiliated members of the Syndicate have submitted a letter to Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Ciza Thomas urging her to convene the Syndicate immediately, alleging that it was last held in February 2026. The university authorities denied it stating that the last meeting was held on April 16, 2026.

The members alleged that the V-C had carried out the guest faculty appointments without seeking the consent of the Syndicate. The varsity authorities rejected the allegations while pointing out that the process was held as per the norms prescribed by the University Grants Commission and after evaluating the qualification of the candidates.

R.S. Sasikumar, chairperson of the SUCC, alleged that the Left-affiliated Syndicate members were opposing the guest faculty appointment as they were not able to recruit persons of their choice.
