All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leaders Kalyan Banerjee, Chief Whip of AITC in Lok Sabha, and Lok Sabha MP Kirti Azad addressed a press conference in New Delhi on Tuesday (June 9, 2026) regarding the ongoing rebellion in the party.

Several MPs from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) met with Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) West Bengal observer Bhupendra Yadav at his residence on Monday (June 8, 2026). Citing the meeting, Mr. Banerjee accused the leaders of siding with the BJP and said, “Today their leader is Narendra Modi. They have become BJP.”

Mr. Banerjee said the leaders were free to leave the party but urged them to “stop writing TMC leader/MP beside your name”.

“Post the election results, did these leaders or Sharmila Sarkar stand by the families of the deceased or affected party workers?” asked the TMC leader.

The 20 rebel MPs plan to form a separate bloc and support the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre. Barasat Lok Sabha MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar is emerging as the leader of the bloc.

Mr. Banerjee has said that Ms. Dastidar has been targetting the TMC leaders with the help of the BJP.

“Kakoli Ghosh immediately took security from the State and Central government, and now she is, with the help of the BJP, targeting leaders from TMC of her area,” said the TMC MP.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress leader Sabyasachi Dutta was arrested early on Tuesday (June 9, 2026) from West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district on charges of extortion and criminal intimidation, police said.
