Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress leader and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday (June 7, 2026) condoled the death of Malayalam actor Salim Kumar.

Leading the tributes, Mr. Modi wrote on X that Salim Kumar had left an indelible mark through his versatile roles and unforgettable performances. He said his thoughts were with the actor’s family and countless admirers.

Mr. Gandhi described Salim Kumar as a stalwart of the Malayalam film industry and an irreplaceable loss to Indian cinema. Recalling the National Award-winning actor’s ability to make millions laugh while also moving audiences with his dramatic depth, he conveyed his condolences to the family, friends and admirers.

“Salim Kumar brought laughter and warmth to countless hearts through his extraordinary talent. His contribution to Indian cinema would be remembered for generations,” Ms. Vadra wrote on X.

Salim Kumar, 57, passed away in Kochi on Saturday (June 6, 2026) and his funeral was held at his hometown in North Paravur in Ernakulam district on Sunday.
