Kerala woman assaulted for questioning eve-teasing

Kerala woman assaulted for questioning eve-teasing

Posted on June 2, 2026 By admin

A woman was allegedly assaulted and her mobile phone smashed by a man, reportedly part of an eight-member group, after she questioned eve-teasing along Chakkalappadam Road in Kaloor in Kochi, Kerala, in the early morning hours of Tuesday.

The woman, accompanied by her friend, was returning to their room after a part-time job around 4 a.m. when they were allegedly subjected to eve-teasing by the group, which also included two women. The man allegedly made indecent gestures and comments. When the woman confronted him and began recording a video, he allegedly turned violent.

The accused allegedly assaulted her and smashed her mobile phone. The woman sustained injuries in the attack and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. The Ernakulam Town North police have launched an investigation.

“We have registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 74 (assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty). The investigation is underway and we are examining CCTV footage in the area,” said police sources.
