The Delhi Cabinet has approved compensation of ₹75,000 per hectare for nearly 10,000 farmers whose crops were damaged by heavy rain and waterlogging in August and September last year, the Chief Minister’s Office said on Monday. CM Rekha Gupta said a provision introduced in 2015 provided compensation of ₹20,000 per acre for crop losses caused by heavy rain.

“This amount is approximately ₹49,421 per hectare. Given the rise in agricultural costs over the past 10 years, the government has increased the assistance to ₹75,000 per hectare,” she said.

A survey by the Revenue Department found that crops in the affected areas suffered 100% damage because of prolonged rainfall and waterlogging during August and September 2025. Ms. Gupta stated that 10,977.44 acres (about 4,442.41 hectares) of agricultural land had been affected in Delhi.

“In view of this, the Cabinet has decided to provide ex-gratia assistance at the full rate of ₹75,000 per hectare to all affected farmers. Under the previous policy, assistance was provided in proportion to crop loss up to 70%, with full assistance payable only when crop loss exceeded 70%,” the CMO statement read.

The assistance will be limited to recorded landowners. Land owned by companies, land vested in gram sabhas and farmhouse plots enclosed by permanent boundary walls will not be eligible.
