One more accused in bike-borne attacks case arrested

Posted on May 31, 2026 By admin

Police on Sunday shot at and secured one more accused allegedly involved in bike-borne attacks in Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts.

Based on credible information that an accused, S. Ayyappan, 21, from Nettur in Tenkasi district, was hiding in North Ariyanayakipuram, a special police team was constituted to apprehend him. Ayappan was a history sheeter at Alangulam facing a murder case, police said.

When the police pursued him, Ayappan allegedly attacked them with a weapon, resulting in injuries to a head constable. In a bid to prevent the assault and acting in self-defence, the police team opened fire in which the accused sustained injury. He was admitted to the government hospital at Cheranmahadevi for treatment.

Upon receiving the information, Tirunelveli district SP V. Prasanna Kumar visited the hospital and reviewed the condition of the injured. The head constable and the accused were referred to Tirunelveli Government Medical College and Hospital. Further investigations are on.
