White Paper on State’s finances in two weeks, says Minister

White Paper on State’s finances in two weeks, says Minister

Posted on May 30, 2026 By admin

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister N. Marie Wilson on Saturday said that a White Paper on the State’s financial position would be released within two weeks and that Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay would present the details transparently before the people.

Mr. Wilson was speaking to reporters this after offering prayers at the Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health in Velankanni.

Mr. Wilson said he visited the Velankanni shrine every year and that this year was particularly significant as the revised State Budget would soon be presented. He said officials and staff of the Finance Department were working intensively on preparing the White Paper. Discussions were under way on measures to improve Tamil Nadu’s financial position, he said.

Referring to the recent alleged corruption issue in the Madurai Corporation, the Minister said a detailed report had been sought and that all audit reports related to the matter had been called for.

On complaints regarding the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme, he said several grievances had been brought to his notice, including allegations that women from northern States were receiving the benefit. He said a detailed inquiry had been ordered into the complaints.

On farm loan waivers, Mr. Wilson said the AIADMK government had announced waivers in 2021 during the final phase of its tenure and that the DMK government subsequently implemented them in a phased manner over the last five years. However, Reserve Bank of India regulations introduced in 2024 required waivers to be completed within 45 days, he said and added that the present government had announced waivers in accordance with RBI norms.

He said details regarding changes in Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme and various welfare measures would be announced during the presentation of the financial statement. Responding to a question on legislators from other political parties joining TVK, Mr. Wilson said India was a democracy and every individual had the right to join any political party of their choice.
