J. Kanishka is very happy to have secured a seat at her dream college, Ethiraj College for Women. The daughter of a conservancy worker and fisherman, she only had two colleges in mind and was hoping to get into Ethiraj college.

Thanks to Urbaser Sumeet, she can now live her dream. Through their Edu Bridge Initiative, two daughters of workers, who are first generation learners, at the company have received free admission to the college. The women received their admission letters on Tuesday at Ethiraj College, Chennai.

A student of NKT National Girls Higher Secondary School, Kanishka had scored 420 in her Class 12 exams. “I want to make my parents proud. I see them working very hard to secure a good future for us. My dad goes for work at 6 a.m. and then goes to the sea in the evening. I want them to have a comfortable life,” she said, who has secured admission in the BCA course and wants to pursue chartered accountancy.

V. Bhavana, daughter of another worker at Urbaser Sumeet, was thrilled to secure admission in the B.Com stream at Ethiraj College. “I missed the cut-off, and hence, I couldn’t afford the self-financing option. I really hope to do so much better so that my parents and everyone who supports me are always proud,” she said.

Chairman of the college V.M. Muralidharan said that there are a lot of people who require support and they do not in any way lack in ability or competence. “Our vision is also to do our bit. With over 3,000 students joining the system, we should support a few. This is also an opportunity to give back to society,” he said.

Mahmood Sait, CEO, Urbaser Sumeet, said, “We are proud to see the daughters of our conservancy workers secure admission at Ethiraj College for Women. Education can transform lives and uplift entire families, and we are grateful to the college for giving these deserving students an opportunity to pursue their dreams.”
