CM reviews projects to curb air pollution

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday inspected three pilot projects being tested in the city to reduce air pollution and said such efforts would be pursued throughout the year, not just during winter.

Accompanied by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ms. Gupta reviewed 21 filter-free air purifying systems installed on electricity poles along Sat Guru Ram Singh Marg in Kirti Nagar, an electric vehicle-based anti-smog gun operating on the Kirti Nagar–Mayapuri stretch, and the PAWAN III roadside air pollution control device installed near the Kirti Nagar Fire Station.

Last year, the Environment Department had organised an ‘Innovation Challenge’ in which innovators and start-ups presented solutions to tackle pollution. These were evaluated with the support of experts from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and the best projects were selected for pilot implementation, including the three inspected on Saturday.

Ms. Gupta said the technologies were being deployed at different locations to assess their effectiveness and, if found successful, could be scaled up across the city. “Delhi’s campaign against pollution is not confined to a few winter months but is a round-the-year commitment to ensuring clean air and better health for citizens,” she said.
