District Collector Sheik Abdul Rahman chaired a review meeting on seamless water supply and distribution in Villupuram district on Monday.
Mr. Rahman directed panchayat secretaries and overhead tank operators to plug leakages in the overhead tanks, to plug wastage and to address complaints of water shortage immediately without delay. He said that steps have been initiated for sinking nine more borewells to supply water through pipelines to areas within Villupuram municipality.
Regular water supply
Officials have also been instructed to ensure regular supply in all Town Panchayats and Village Panchayats.
The Collector also instructed officials to identify areas in Gingee, Olakkur, Melmalayanur, and Kanai blocks that may face water scarcity, and to strengthen existing water sources using Panchayat funds. Repair of motor pumps and leakage and breaks in pipelines must be repaired and brought to public use without delay.
Public complaints related to drinking water must be resolved within 24 hours, and mass cleaning drives must be carried out every Friday in all local bodies. Areas prone to water stagnation should be identified immediately to prevent problems even during light rain, and pre-monsoon desilting, and flood-prevention works must be completed in a time-bound manner without delay, he said.
