Chennaiyin FC cannot wait for the ISL season to end.
Seven losses, three draws and just two 1-0 wins have left the former champion languishing in 13th place, better only than relegation-threatened Mohammedan SC. And Chennaiyin is among two sides that are yet to hit double figures in goals this season.
Its final fixture against title-chasing Bengaluru FC — who only have faint hopes — at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Saturday offers little encouragement.
CFC head coach Clifford Miranda admitted that finishing woes had hampered his side. “Teams above us have created less but scored more. When we miss a chance and then the opposition scores, and when it becomes a pattern, the team starts losing confidence,” he said.
Meanwhile, his counterpart Pep Munoz has not fared much better either. One victory, two draws and a defeat after taking over from Renedy Singh mean that Bengaluru is fifth on the table, two points off the top spot.
Miranda said that Alberto Noguera, Mohammed Ali Bemammer and Laldinliana Renthlei were among the major absentees for the early kick-off, but assured that his side would “fight with whatever we have” for one final time.
