All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary K.C. Venugopal on Tuesday (May 5, 2026) signalled that Congress was open to talks with actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which made a stunning entrance into Tamil Nadu politics by winning 108 seats in the Assembly elections but marginally fell short of a ruling majority.
Mr. Venugopal told reporters in Alappuzha that Congress had fought the election “as part of a coalition (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)”. Nevertheless, he stated that a “new situation” had emerged in Tamil Nadu. “Congress would factor in the emerging scenario and decide accordingly”, he said.
