Teenager becomes first Congo virus fatality in Pakistan’s Karachi

A 17-year-old boy died on Thursday (April 23, 2026) at a hospital in Pakistan’s Karachi city after contracting the Congo virus, becoming the first confirmed victim of the disease this year, health authorities said.

“The boy died today. He was brought to the hospital on Monday with high fever,” Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital and Research Centre Director Dr. Abdul Wahid Rajput said.
