Peru presidential election results delayed after thousands get one-day voting extension

Peru presidential election results delayed after thousands get one-day voting extension

Posted on April 13, 2026 By admin

Peruvian presidential candidate Ricardo Belmont talks to the media as Peruvians head to the polls in the country’s general election, with a June 7 runoff expected if no contender clears the 50% threshold needed to win outright, in Lima, Peru, on April 12, 2026.

Peruvian voters will have to wait until at least Monday (April 13, 2026) to learn the outcome of Sunday’s (April 12, 2026) presidential election after the process was mired with logistical issues that even left thousands of people in the country and abroad unable to cast ballots.

The problems prompted electoral authorities to allow 63,300 residents of Peru’s capital, Lima, to vote on Monday (April 13, 2026). The extension, announced after vote counting began Sunday (April 12, 2026) evening, also covers Peruvians registered to vote in Orlando, Florida, and Paterson, New Jersey.
