U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday (March 30, 2026) threatened to strike Iran’s oil, power and water infrastructure if Tehran did not agree to a deal and reopen the Strait of Hormuz soon.

“The United States of America is in serious discussions with a new and more reasonable regime to end our Military Operations in Iran,” Mr. Trump wrote in a social media post. “Great progress has been made but, if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately “Open for Business,” we will conclude our lovely “stay” in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!).”

On March 10, Mr. Trump had threatened to hit Iran “20 times harder” if it did not open the Strait of Hormuz. On March 21, Mr. Trump gave a 48-hour deadline to Iran to reopen the Strait, threatening to destroy Iran’s power plants if it did not do so. On March 23, Mr. Trump backed off, delaying his deadline by five days, which extended again to April 6.

Mr. Trump says his administration is in talks with Iran to end the war, while the Pentagon is sending additional troops to the region. Iran has denied reports of negotiations. It has it has got a proposal from Washington which is not acceptable. It has made its own counter-proposal.
