Three-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday named middle-order batter Rinku Singh as its vice-captain for the 2026 season.

At the Knights Unplugged 3.0 event here, KKR CEO Venky Mysore made the announcement while presenting the players and the support staff.

Starting from the team’s newest recruit, left-arm seamer Saurabh Dubey, KKR showcased all its available players – including the towering duo of Cameron Green and Blessing Muzarabani – before inviting captain Ajinkya Rahane and his newly-appointed deputy Rinku.

With KKR facing problems due to injuries to some of its key pacers, the franchise is expected to rely on its batting prowess. The left-handed Rinku, who has been performing the finisher’s job well so far, has an even bigger role to play this season.

“We have seen Rinku evolve as a player and a leader. We wanted him to shoulder a little more responsibility and this is the perfect time,” KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar said during a panel discussion.

Nayar added he was fortunate to have stalwarts like Dwayne Bravo, Andre Russell, Shane Watson and Tim Southee as part of the support staff.

“It feels good to be named KKR’s vice-captain. My dream came true after we became the champion in the T20 World Cup. Now, I will try to fulfil my responsibility,” Rinku said.
