Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said on ‌Saturday (March 21, 2026) that there needs to be an “immediate cessation” of what he described as U.S.-Israeli aggression to end the war and wider ‌regional conflict, Iran’s Embassy in India said ‌in an X post on ‌Saturday (March 21, 2026).

Mr. Pezeshkian spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi by phone earlier in the day.

Mr. Pezeshkian told Mr. Modi that there should be ‌guarantees to prevent a recurrence of such “aggression” in the future. He also called on the ‌BRICS bloc of major emerging economies to play an independent role in halting aggression against Iran.

Referring to India’s presidency of BRICS, Mr. Pezeshkian called for the group to play an independent role in halting aggressions against Iran and in safeguarding regional and international peace and stability, the readout said.

The Iranian President proposed a regional security framework comprising ‌West Asian countries to ensure peace without foreign interference, according to the country’s Embassy in India.

“The president also proposed the establishment of a regional security framework composed of countries of West Asia, aimed at ensuring peace and stability in the region through regional cooperation without foreign interference,” it said.

In a separate post on X earlier ‌on Saturday (March 21, 2026), Mr. Modi said he condemned attacks on critical infrastructure in the region in the discussion with Pezeshkian.

He further reiterated the importance of safeguarding freedom of ‌navigation and ensuring shipping lanes remain open and secure

Separately, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke to his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi and discussed the conflict in West Asia and its implications for the larger region.
