The U.S. Justice Department has released a fresh cache of records from its investigative files on Jeffrey Epstein, the late sex offender, continuing a series of disclosures mandated by a law aimed at uncovering what the government was aware of regarding Epstein’s sexual exploitation of minors and his connections with influential figures like Donald Trump and Bill Clinton.

Here’s some key information on the infamous Jeffrey Epstein files and the list of personalities mentioned so far.

Who was Jeffrey Epstein?

Jeffrey Epstein was a financier from the United States who was convicted of sex offences and faced allegations of serial trafficking of women and girls for sexual purposes. He later became a multimillionaire and associated with a network of wealthy individuals, influential politicians and even royalty.

Epstein was arrested in July 2019 on federal charges of sex trafficking of minors in Florida and New York. He had previously faced legal issues in 2008 when he struck a controversial plea deal that allowed him to serve only 13 months in jail for similar offences. The renewed scrutiny of his actions led to his arrest in 2019, but he died in his jail cell in August 2019, with his death ruled a suicide.

Epstein Files: An overview

On December 19, 2025, in accordance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, the Department of Justice released hundreds of thousands of documents related to the crimes of Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplices. The “Epstein files” are an extensive collection of documents tied to two criminal investigations involving sex trafficking perpetrated by Epstein.

Following his death, discussions intensified about the contents of these files, the individuals mentioned and the circumstances surrounding their involvement. By 2025, these inquiries and more became a source of controversy during the second term of President Donald Trump, as even some of his staunchest supporters voiced feelings of betrayal over his administration’s hesitance to disclose information concerning the Epstein case.
