Missed chances proved to be costly, says Siraj ahead of the decider match

Mohammed Siraj on Saturday said the team environment remains positive with strong support from senior players and coaching staff as India gears up for the ODI decider against New Zealand at the Holkar Stadium on Sunday.

Addressing the media, Siraj admitted that missed chances proved costly but credited New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell for making the most of his opportunities.

“The environment is very good. It feels really positive. It’s a great opportunity for all of us to express ourselvess,” Siraj said.

Reflecting on the series, Siraj felt India had played good cricket overall. “In the first match, both bowling and batting units performed well.”

“In the second game, despite losing wickets early, we still managed to post around 280. The partnership between K.L. Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja was important, and Nitish Reddy also contributed.”

However, Siraj acknowledged that lapses in the field hurt the team. “There were a few chances. Had it been taken, the result could have been different,” added Siraj.

“Also, full credit to Daryl Mitchell — he batted very well against both spin and pace. We didn’t execute our plans properly against him and the dew made it difficult for spinners to grip the ball, and it came nicely onto the bat. But we’re more prepared for this game and will get him out early.”

The pacer also dismissed concerns over Ravindra Jadeja’s form, insisting the all-rounder is only one breakthrough away from a defining spell. “There is no concern about his form. His bowling has been very good. It’s just about that one wicket — once it arrives, everything changes.”
