Whether he dons the India jersey or his Indian Premier League franchise colours or his state team Hyderabad’s badge, Mohammed Siraj is an epitome of commitment.

The energetic pacer displayed his close affiliation to the Hyderabad team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy when he joined the side in an important Group-B match against a formidable Uttar Pradesh side despite his hectic schedule and contributed in a crucial win.

According to team sources, the Hyderabad players felt that the presence of international pacer Siraj in the team would boost their morale. When it was conveyed to Siraj, who recently played two Test matches against South Africa, he made himself available.

Despite not sleeping well in the night due to a delayed flight and landing here early on Tuesday, Siraj not only encouraged his Hyderabad team-mates with his presence but also bowled economically, returning figures of one for 15 in four overs at the Eden Gardens. His contribution was important in a tight low-scoring affair.

“Having Siraj come in for a crucial match was such a major boost for us. Adding someone of his calibre to the team made a huge psychological difference. It was great to have him and truly inspiring as well, he reached the hotel at 3 a.m. (but) still showed up for the match with all his energy,” Hyderabad all-rounder Tanay Thyagarajan told The Hindu.

“Siraj was completely involved right from the warm-up and was ready to do whatever it took for the team to win. It’s no surprise he does what he does for India. Because his commitment is the same on every level,” added Tanay.

A true ambassador of the game, a visibly tired Siraj did not disappoint the eagerly awaiting fans, who cheered for him from the stands, as he obliged them by posing for photos and signing autographs after the match.
