Over 600 detained in 500 search operations across Kashmir: police

Posted on November 12, 2025 By admin

At least 600 individuals have been “detained and bound down” in over 500 search operations in Kashmir over the past few days, officials said on Wednesday (November 12, 2025). Meanwhile, scores of premises of members of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) were also raided on Wednesday (November 12, 2025) as part of the ongoing operation.

The crackdown on suspects in Kashmir was stepped up after the Red Fort blast in New Delhi on November 10, which left 13 civilians dead. The role of three doctors from south Kashmir is under the scanner for their “terror links”. One of them is suspected to have been the driver of the explosive-laden car.

Officials said DNA samples were collected from Dr. Umar Nabi’s mother to match the body found inside the car. Dr. Nabi is the main suspect in the Red Fort blast.

Meanwhile, another doctor, Tajamul Ahmed Malik, was questioned by police in Srinagar. “He has nothing to do with the Delhi blast. The reports circulating are completely false. His questioning was only about the cold storage project, to find out where it was coming from and what its sources were,” said Mohammad Ayoub Malik, the doctor’s father, as quoted by local news agencies.

A police spokesman said over 200 locations were raided in south Kashmir’s Kulgam, also the hometown of Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather, who is under scanner for the posters pasted by Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) on October 19 at multiple locations in the Bunpora area of Nowgam, Srinagar. The posters had carried threats against police and security forces.

“The raids in Kulgam were carried out at the houses and premises of JeI members and their associates to dismantle the terror ecosystem and its support structure at the grassroots level,” police said.

Kulgam saw more than 400 cordon-and-search operations (CASOs) in the last four days. “These operations have led to the interrogation of around 500 individuals affiliated with JKNOPs (J&K Nationals Operating from Pakistan) and other banned outfits. Many have been bound down and shifted to Mattan Jail, in Anantnag under preventive laws,” police said.

In Baramulla’s Sopore, police said raids were conducted at over 30 locations across Sopore, Zaingeer, and Rafiabad areas. “The searches were based on credible intelligence inputs indicating attempts by JeI-linked elements to revive their activities under different fronts. A significant quantity of incriminating material, including documents, digital gadgets, and printed content of the banned organisation was recovered and seized,” police added.

Several individuals are being questioned to ascertain their involvement in unlawful activities, police said. In Pulwama’s Awantipora, scores of houses and premises of JeI members were also raided.

In central Kashmir’s Ganderbal, a large quantity of incriminating materials, including documents, digital devices, and printed content, was recovered and seized from the premises of JeI-linked individuals. “Several suspects have been detained for questioning,” police said.

According to police, these operations form a crucial part of the J&K Police’s preventive strategy aimed at dismantling the terror–separatist ecosystem, cutting off its ideological, financial, and logistical networks, and ensuring that peace and normalcy remain undisturbed.

Raids were also carried out in Anantnag, Shopian, Pulwama, and Bandipora districts. “Several JeI members were questioned and bound down under relevant sections to prevent their further involvement in unlawful activities in Bandipora,” police said.

In Budgam, raids were conducted in Soibugh, Magam, Khansahib, Beerwah, Chadoora and Charar-i-Sharief areas. “The J&K Police reaffirms its commitment to dismantling the terror ecosystem and eradicating the support structures of proscribed organisations to ensure lasting peace and security,” police said.

Meanwhile, the Shopian Police have taken cognisance of a viral video circulated through a Facebook page titled “Voice of Humanity”, in which a speech encouraging separatist tendencies and activities aimed at disturbing peace was delivered.

“The J&K Police will continue to take firm legal action against those attempting to disturb harmony or misuse social media platforms,” police warned.
