Women’s World Cup | South Africa is a dangerous side, admits skipper Sciver-Brunt

Four-time champion England has been a force to reckon with in the 50-over showpiece, missing out on the knockouts only once in the tournament’s 13-edition history.

For skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt, who has been at the helm of a transitioning side with new coach Charlotte Edwards, this run reinforces belief in the processes being set in place.

“We started the tournament unsure of where we were compared to the other teams in the world. But we always wanted to come here, try and win, regardless of where we are in our journey,” she said ahead of the semifinal against South Africa at the ACA Stadium here on Wednesday.

Great achievement

“We’ve made it to the knockouts and finished second on the table, which is a great achievement in itself. Knockout games are a real privilege to be a part of, and to find ourselves here so early in our tenure is special.”

She dismissed any suggestions of taking South Africa lightly after beating the latter by 10 wickets earlier in the tournament.

“South Africa has had some brilliant games since then and is a dangerous side. You never assume you are going to take 10 wickets so quickly in a match.”

Sciver-Brunt will have her parents and siblings in attendance to cheer her on as she hopes to carry England to its eighth final.

“For the competition, it would be brilliant if India got to the final, just to feel that atmosphere. It’s obviously going to be a massive couple of games.”
