Airtel partners with IBM to add AI capabilities to cloud product

“With this partnership, we are also extending the footprint of our availability zones in India from four to ten, hosting these on our own next-gen sustainable data centres,” Airtel MD Gopal Vittal said.

IBM is partnering with Bharti Airtel Ltd to “augment” the telco’s recently launched cloud offering, the U.S. tech firm said at its IBM Think event in Mumbai on Wednesday (October 15, 2025). Sandip Patel, managing director of IBM in India and South Asia, said at the event that the partnership would help Airtel’s cloud product — launched in August as a solution for industries keen on storing their data within Indian borders — benefit from AI tools that the tech firm offers to its clients.

The partnership aims to make AI-enabled offerings more attractive for “mission-critical applications in regulated industries like banking, healthcare, government and others,” where Mr. Patel and other IBM executives said that the shift to newer technologies is slower and more cautious.

“With this partnership, we are also extending the footprint of our availability zones in India from four to ten, hosting these on our own next-gen sustainable data centres,” Airtel MD Gopal Vittal said in a statement. “We will, together, also establish two new Multizone Regions (MZRs) in Mumbai and Chennai soon.” On Tuesday (October 14, 2025), Airtel had announced a deal with Google for the tech firm’s Visakhapatnam data centre.
