The City of Destiny is decked up to host a marquee match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, between India and Australia, at Dr. YSR ACA VDCA International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

There is a big hype for the match as all the tickets for the match to be held at the stadium with a capacity to accommodate 27,000 viewers have already been sold out days in advance.

ICC chairman Jay Shah, senior officials of the BCCI are also likely to be present at the city stadium during the match. IT Minister Nara Lokesh, ACA president Kesineni Sivanath, Secretary Sana Satish Babu will also be present.

While the tickets for all the matches being hosted in Visakhapatnam start from ₹100, the same for the match between India and Australia starts from ₹150.

“India and Australia matches always pull spectators, whether it is men or women. Visakhapatnam is honoured to host such an important match of the World Cup,” said a senior official from the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA)

Stands named after woman cricketer

Ahead of this match, the ACA will announce the naming of two stands after former India women’s team captain Mithali Raj and wicket-keeper Ravi Kalpana.

The ACA has taken the decision after Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana highlighted the absence of stadium stands named after leading Indian women cricketers, during the ‘Breaking Boundaries with Nara Lokesh’ event in August. Acting on Mandhana’s appeal, HRD Minister Nara Lokesh consulted the ACA, leading to a prompt resolution to honour women’s cricket icons by naming stands after them at the Vizag venue.

Ahead of the match, the city police have brought the stadium under a thick security blanket. Led by Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi and senior police officers oversaw the security drills conducted on Saturday.
