Haryana Congress leader Brijendra Singh embarks on Sadbhav Yatra” to revive social harmony against BJP’s divisive politics

Senior Congress leader and former Hisar Lok Sabha member Brijendra Singh on Sunday (October 5, 2025) embarked upon the multiple phased “Sadbhav Yatra”, aiming to unite the people of Haryana and restore social harmony.

‘Sadbhav’, meaning harmony, has come under stress over the past decade, as the BJP’s divisive politics have deepened caste, regional, and communal discord in Haryana, said a press statement by the organisers, adding that the primary objective of the padyatra (foot march) was to revive brotherhood within the society.

Inspired by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, the yatra aims to carry forward the Congress’ vision and values directly to the people of Haryana and unify Congress workers and leaders.

It also seeks to draw attention to major national and regional issues, including “vote chori” (electoral malpractice), a failing foreign policy and international isolation, unemployment, paper leaks, poor law and order, agrarian distress, government employees’ grievances, flawed new army recruitment process, and deterioration of democratic institutions under the BJP government, said the press statement.

Mr. Singh had resigned from the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha poll last year to join the Congress. Contesting the Assembly election from Uchana Kalan on Congress’ symbol in October last, Mr. Singh lost to BJP’s Devender Attri by only 32 votes.

Flagging off the Yatra, Mr. Singh said: “Today, Haryana needs to be strengthened more than ever. We will reclaim the unity among all 36 communities, which will stand as a testament against the divisive politics of the BJP government. The people of Haryana will raise their voices on both national and regional issues, and the BJP government will see how amplifying Haryanvi brotherhood can bring real change in the State.” Kaithal MLA Aditya Surjewala, Churu MP Rahul Kaswan, Haryana Mahila Congress president Sudha Bhardwaj were also present on the occasion. Local residents also extended their support to the yatra.

The yatra will traverse all 90 constituencies across the State, covering 2,600–2,800 km over the course of six months. The first phase of the padyatra will pass through 14 Assembly constituencies including Narwana, Kalayat, Jind, Narnaund, Uchana, Uklana, and Hisar, before concluding at Adampur. The Yatra’s slogan, “Congress ka Haath, Bhaichaare ke Saath” seeks to unite the people of Haryana in the mission to restore social harmony.
