The death toll in the Karur stampede during Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and actor Vijay’s rally has risen to 41 after a 60-year-old woman, Suguna, succumbed to her injuries on Sunday (September 28, 2025) night.

Suguna had been undergoing treatment at Karur Government Medical College Hospital after sustaining severe injuries in the crowd surge that happened on Saturday evening.

Hospital authorities confirmed she died late on Sunday, despite intensive care.

According to official sources, of the 41 dead, 18 were women and 14 men. Nine were children, including five girls

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court will hear on Monday (September 29, 2025) afternoon a case filed by TVK regarding the deaths at the Vijay rally. Several allegations were levelled against the State government and the police.
