Empowertrans, an electrical engineering company, serving power transmission infrastructure segments, for Power Utility and Power Generation industries across India, said it has successfully commissioned Odisha’s first-ever digital Process Bus-based 2×20 MVA, 132/33 KV grid substation at Agalpur, Rampur in Balangir district.

Developed for Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (OPTCL), this facility marks a significant technological leap, being the first of its kind by any State Transmission Utility (STU) in India, the company said.

The substation was inaugurated by Odisha Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Energy K.V. Singh Deo.

Asit Pradhan, Managing Director, Empowertrans said, “The Agalpur substation represents a paradigm shift in how power systems are designed, monitored, and controlled. This achievement reflects our commitment to pioneering advanced technologies and delivering sustainable, future-ready solutions.”

Unlike conventional substations, the Agalpur facility employs a Process Bus architecture that integrates digital sensors placed near equipment, fiber optic communication networks, and intelligent automation systems.

This enables real-time data analysis, faster fault detection, control and enhanced operational efficiency. The digital design also contributes to a substantial reduction in carbon footprint, aligning with global sustainability goals.

With a track record in Extra High Voltage electrical engineering, the company said it has consistently delivered innovative solutions across India.

It had previously commissioned Odisha’s first QUAD Moose 400 KV Double Circuit Transmission Line at Kamalanga for the GMR Group, and introduced Monopole Tower-based Transmission Line using High Tension Low Sag (HTLS) conductors for IPCL, West Bengal and BALCO, Chhattisgarh.

It had also built the country’s first cyclone-resistant transmission line in Wind Zone-6 at Puri for Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL), reinforcing its reputation as a leader in resilient and advanced power infrastructure, it said.

As the power industry evolves with the rise of Renewable energy and digital transformation, the company said it remained at the forefront, committed to delivering high-quality, time-bound projects that redefine the standards of transmission engineering.
