No serious challenges with cars using E20: Renault India

No “serious challenges” have been detected in E10-compliant vehicles of Renault India plying on roads and utilising the E20 fuel, the car maker informed on Wednesday (August 27, 2025).

Seeking to allay concerns about the use of 20% blended fuel in their E10-compliant cars, the Triber manufacturer informed that “rigorous durability testing” was conducted jointly by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) using varied fuel combinations.

This included the use of E20 fuel in vehicles certified compliant for E10. The car maker pointed to the draft report which states that there is “no adverse impact” from the same.

For context, the car maker stated that in adherence to prevailing norms, E10 was the declared fuel for type approval (confirmation that a vehicle, system or components meet certain performance standards) and production tests of the 2022 Triber model.

MoPNG’s earlier clarification

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) in a statement on August 12 had attributed E20 to be providing better acceleration and ride quality alongside lower carbon emissions, by approximately 30%, as compared to the E10 predecessor.

It further said there have been no issues relating to either driveability, ability to start the vehicles or metal and plastic compatibility. MoPNG had only cautioned that “certain older vehicles” may have to replace some rubber parts and gaskets which were designed as per the non-blended fuel.
