Top priority to women’s welfare, says Eluru Collector Vetri Selvi. K

Collector Vetri Selvi. K. has said that priority is being given to women’s development and employment in the district, and 29,156 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) remceived loans to the tune of ₹1,828 crore

The Collector, along with SP K. Pratap Shiva Kishore and Joint Collector P. Dhatri Reddy participated in the Republic Day celebrations on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Vetri Selvi said that more than 3 lakh houses were being constructed in the district at a cost of ₹1,868 crore under the NTR Gruha Nirmana Padhakam.

The Collector said about 17,000 pregnant women and 97,000 children were being provided with a nutritious diet at a cost of ₹15 crore. As many as 1,587 cases were registered under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 200 were settled through counselling, and 1,888 cases were in the court.

The government provided quality meals to 15,132 children in the district at an estimated cost of about ₹44 crore in the schools under the Srimathi Dokka Sitamma Mid-Day Meals Scheme.

The Collector appreciated Mr. Pratap Shiva Kishore and other police officers for taking up awareness programmes for women and girls on safety. Ms. Vetri Selvi appreciated the SP for launching ‘Abhay Rakshak Dalams’ for women in the district.

Eluru Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) G.V.G. Ashok Kumar unfurled the National flag and participated in the Republic Day celebrations.

The Collector and SP distributed commendation certificates to the employees who rendered extraordinary service. Later, the tableaux displayed by various departments enthralled the audience at the celebrations.

Cultural programmes by the students of various educational organisations stood out during the Republic Day celebrations.
