Minister for Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education Y. Satya Kumar Yadav has emphasised the need for the medical professionals in government and private sectors to resolve to provide better services to the people and treat them with a humane approach to achieve the goal of a ‘Healthy, Wealthy and Happy Andhra Pradesh’.

In an open letter addressed to the medical and health professionals in the State on January 1 (Wednesday), Mr. Satya Kumar highlighted the concerns and issues plaguing both the sectors, and sought the medical fraternity to work towards removing these deficiencies.

Regarding performance of the government hospitals, the Minister said the feedback from people and media raised concerns about the attitude of doctors and supporting medical staff, availability of doctors and other staff in specified duty hours, senior doctors and specialists not attending to OP and IP services as required, functioning of diagnostic equipment, among others.

“Clear directions have been issued to address various shortcomings to make a difference and improve the quality of delivery of healthcare services to the people visiting government hospitals every day,” the Minister said in the letter. He hoped that increased monitoring would make a difference.

Referring to healthcare services in the private sector, the Minister said there was a need for the officials to look into the concerns of people, which included high costs of treatment, unnecessary prescription of diagnostic tests, speed of disposal of patients with limited interaction of doctors with patients, low payments to supporting nursing and technical staff etc.

He said, on the New Year day, the medical fraternity should resolve to address these concerns and reorient their attitude towards patients and work collectively towards bringing about a positive change in the healthcare services in the State.
