CHENNAI: N. Jagadeesan piled on 165 (147b, 17×4, 4×6) and pacer C.V. Achyuth picked up six for 31 as Tamil Nadu outplayed Jammu & Kashmir by 191 runs in Group-D in the fourth round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the Dr. PVG Raju ACA Sports Complex in Vizianagaram on Saturday.

Jagadeesan added 170 runs for the third-wicket partnership with B. Indrajith (78, 76b, 6×4, 1×6).

Achyuth’s figures is the second-best for Tamil Nadu in the tournament history behind off-spinner S. Suresh Kumar’s seven for 46 against Goa in Chennai in 2010.

This is Tamil Nadu’s second straight win in three matches so far. After its first match versus Chandigarh was rained out, Tamil Nadu posted a 114-run win over Uttar Pradesh.

Skipper Sai Kishore felt that the team had been gaining confidence and shaping up well.

“Overall, good performance. Jaggi (Jagadeesan) batted out of his skin. Indrajith also batted really well. I feel everybody is coming into form at the right time. Everybody is in good shape. Achyuth got a lot of wickets today, but I felt the bowling was good overall. So, overall, the team is shaping up really well,” he said over the phone.

Stating that Tamil Nadu is a white-ball powerhouse and the favourite to win the tournament, he wishes for the team to continue in the same vein and sustain the momentum going into the knockout phase.

“It’s a good start. Having a win, always gives you a lot of momentum. In batting, everybody is among the runs, which is good to see. Being relatively inexperienced, Achyuth has also taken wickets now. So, he’ll also be confident. Slowly, everyone is getting better. Before the league phase ends, it will be great if we keep shaping up well and have momentum.”
