Posters depicting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi dozing off in Parliament have surfaced in different parts of Kolkata. This comes two days after the Opposition parties led by the Congress and the Leader of Opposition, Mr. Gandhi, held a rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan against the Chief Election Commissioner.
The posters show Mr. Gandhi inside the Parliament, where he is seen lying with his face on his hand, with his eyes closed, with the caption, “Is this how a national leader should be?” In another picture, Mr. Gandhi is seen sitting with his face on his palm with his eyes closed.
However, no one has claimed responsibility for the posters, and there are no identifying markers of any groups along with the posters that have now surfaced in the Salt Lake area. This comes as the Opposition raises pressure on the Union government and CEC Gyanesh Kumar against allegations of “vote chori“ (vote theft) and has taken out multiple protest marches in Delhi.
“There is a Rahul phobia; wherever he goes, they (BJP) seem to be traumatised. He is not just a politician but the Leader of the Opposition. Putting up posters in such bad taste against someone who holds a national-level office is unacceptable. Mr Gandhi can be criticised for his politics, but personal attacks have no place in politics. We do not expect much from the BJP, which repeatedly indulges in such things in bad taste,” Congress spokesperson and senior leader Suman Roy Chaudhuri told The Hindu on Tuesday (November 3, 2026).
Mr. Roy Chaudhuri added that there is a constant attack on Mr. Gandhi by the BJP leaders, but that their party does not believe in attack and revenge-based politics, so they will not put up any counter posters to attack the people who did this.
