A 22-year-old remand prisoner who escaped from police custody with handcuffs near Viyyur Central Jail in Thrissur on Tuesday (October 27) evening was arrested after an extensive search.
Ashik, a native of Kolazhy, was apprehended from Padukad, near Viyyur jail, the police said.
Ashik had been arrested by the Thrissur Medical College police on Wednesday in connection with an assault case. After a court remanded him in judicial custody, he was being taken to jail when he escaped from the police jeep near the jail premises.
The two police personnel accompanying him chased him but failed to catch him. The handcuffs were later found abandoned.
The police launched an extensive search and eventually tracked down and arrested the fugitive remand prisoner.
