Southern States’ police chiefs to meet in Hyderabad on October 23 to tackle inter-State crime

Southern States’ police chiefs to meet in Hyderabad on October 23 to tackle inter-State crime

Posted on October 22, 2026 By admin

Top police officials from five southern States and three Union Territories will converge in Hyderabad on Friday (October 23) for a regional coordination meeting aimed at strengthening cooperation in tackling terrorism, drug trafficking, cybercrime and organised criminal networks operating across State borders.

The Southern States’ Police Coordination Committee meeting, organised by the Telangana Police, will be held at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC), with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy attending as the chief guest.

Director General of Police C. V. Anand said the meeting would bring together Directors General of Police (DGPs) and Inspectors General of Police (IGs) from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala, along with representatives from the Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Puducherry and Lakshadweep.

Senior officials from Central agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), National Investigation Agency (NIA), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), are also expected to participate.

The discussions will focus on developing joint strategies to tackle crimes that extend beyond individual State jurisdictions, particularly the movement of inter-State criminal gangs, drug trafficking networks, cyber fraud syndicates and organised crime.

Officials will review mechanisms for sharing intelligence on criminals operating across State borders, challenges faced during investigations involving multiple jurisdictions and ways to improve coordination between police departments.

The meeting will also examine emerging security concerns, including terrorism, the aftermath of Maoist activities, financial crimes, human trafficking and youth unrest.

Another major focus will be the implementation of the new criminal laws, with participating States expected to exchange experiences and best practices in policing and criminal investigations.

Coastal security, road accident prevention and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in policing will also feature prominently in the discussions.

According to the DGP, the meeting is intended to strengthen intelligence-sharing mechanisms, improve operational coordination and develop a joint action plan to address inter-State crime more effectively.

The participating police departments will also share successful practices adopted in their respective jurisdictions, with an emphasis on building a coordinated response to criminal activities that cross state boundaries.
