History-sheeter hacked to death in Sivaganga

History-sheeter hacked to death in Sivaganga

Posted on October 19, 2026 By admin

A 26-year-old history-sheeter was hacked to death by a 10-member armed gang near Okkur Melamangalam in Sivaganga district on Sunday.

The victim, identified as Madan alias Sullan of Pudupatti, was a notorious criminal with 14 criminal cases pending against him. It included a double murder case, when he and his accomplices allegedly killed two brothers, Surya and Subash, near Kollangudi in 2024.

According to police, Madan was facing persistent death threats and narrowly survived two previous attempts on his life.

The attack on Sunday occurred during a local manjuvirattu event at Okkur Melamangalam. Madan brought his bull to the venue and was standing near a local school with a friend in the afternoon when a 10-member gang arrived on motorcycles brandishing lethal weapons.

As the assailants charged towards him, Madan and his companion fled in the direction of a nearby sugarcane field. The gang chased them through the crop, cornered Madan and hacked him to death before fleeing the scene.

District Superintendent of Police Abhishek Gupta and DSP Amal Edwin rushed to the spot and conducted an inquiry. The Sivaganga Town police sent the body to the Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Police have registered a case and formed three special teams to hunt down the assailamys, suspecting a retaliatory gang vendetta behind the murder.
