Journalist-activist M. Suchitra was presented the G. Prabhakaran-OISCA Environment Excellence Award for her contribution to environmental and social justice journalism at a function held here on Wednesday (October 7, 2026).
Former District Collector K.V. Mohankumar presented the award at a function, which marked the third commemoration of G. Prabhakaran, former correspondent of The Hindu in Palakkad. Mr. Prabhakaran died in a road accident here on October 7, 2023.
The award was instituted by Prabhakaran’s family in association with the Palakkad chapter of OISCA International. It carries a certificate, trophy and a cash prize of ₹30,000.
A. Prabhakaran, MLA, was the chief guest. He praised Prabhakaran and Ms. Suchitra for their contributions towards environmental conservation.
Ms. Suchitra has 35 years of experience in English and Malayalam journalism. She was South India special correspondent for Down To Earth and has also worked with India Today and The New Indian Express.
OISCA Palakkad chapter president Nikhil Kodiyathoor presided over the function. OISCA chairman P.A. Vasudevan introduced the award winner. Former municipal chairperson Prameela Sasidharan, former deputy director of Prosecution P. Premnath and Prabhakaran’s widow Vasanthi spoke.
