Two men were arrested for snatching a mobile phone from a food delivery worker in Arumbakkam on Tuesday (October 6, 2026) and attacking people who tried to catch them by hurling stones.

The police identified the accused as Karthikeyan, 19, of Keezh Nedu Vangarai and Deepak, 20, of Garden Street, Arumbakkam. According to the police, Ashoth, 30, a food delivery executive from Saligramam, was standing outside his office on Poonamallee High Road in Arumbakkam on Tuesday when the duo allegedly approached him and snatched his mobile phone.

When Ashoth raised an alarm, passersby tried to apprehend the duo. The suspects picked up stones lying nearby and hurled them at the people before fleeing the spot. Based on Ashoth’s complaint, the Crime Wing of K-8 Arumbakkam police registered a case and launched an investigation. A team led by the Crime Wing inspector traced and arrested the two suspects and recovered the mobile phone.

The accused were produced before a court on Wednesday (October 7) and remanded in judicial custody.
