The Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education (DME) and Research is conducting a stray round of counselling for super speciality (DM/MCh) courses for in-service candidates to fill 43 vacant seats. Of the 43 vacant seats, 10 seats are in DM Neurology, MCh Cardio Vascular and Thoracic Surgery and MCh Paediatric Surgery, and seven seats in MCh Neuro Surgery.
The committee, in a notification, had said that the qualifying percentile for the stray round of super speciality 2025 counselling was lowered to the 30th percentile by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences. Earlier this week, it called for online applications for the stray round of counselling.
It published details of 43 vacant seats for State quota for the stray round counselling. Of these, Madras Medical College had 13 vacant seats (seven in MCh Cardio Vascular and Thoracic Surgery, five in MCh Paediatric Surgery and one in DM Hepatology), while Tirunelveli Medical College had seven vacant seats (three in DM Neurology and one each in DM Medical Oncology, MCh Neuro Surgery, Paediatric Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery).
Registration for the stray round counselling was done from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, followed by choice filling/locking from 4 p.m. on Saturday to noon on Sunday (September 27). The counselling was exclusively for in-service candidates of Tamil Nadu, it said.
It may be recalled that the State surrendered 151 unfilled super speciality seats meant for in-service candidates for the All India Quota second round of counselling. In a case relating to super speciality seats, the Union government informed the Supreme Court that it would return 40 of these seats that remained unfilled after the second round of counselling to Tamil Nadu.
On Saturday, the Selection Committee notified six virtual vacancies on its website. These seats were DM Cardiology, DM Endocrinology, DM Nephrology, MCh Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and MCh Surgical Oncology.
