The Kankanady Town Police on Tuesday rescued 17 head of cattle that were allegedly being illegally transported in a goods vehicle and arrested the vehicle driver.
PSI Siddarama, who on the morning rounds, received information about the illegal transportation of cattle in a truck. At around 6.30 a.m., the suspected truck was seen coming towards the city from the direction of Aadyar. It was stopped in front of Padil Toyota car showroom. At this time, the driver was still in the truck, while another got down from the vehicle and fled.
The driver has been identified as Sadhi, 23, resident of Hassan district. The body of the truck was covered with a green tarpaulin and during inspection, a total of 17 head of cattle were found. The cattle were being transported in a violent manner, without following safety measures, tied tightly to the iron carriages of the truck body with ropes, with their necks raised and in a way that made it difficult to breathe.
A case has been registered in this regard at the Kankanady Town Police Station under Sections 11(A) and11(D)) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and U/S 6 of The Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act and U/S 3(5) of BNS.
The police have seized the truck and arrested its driver besides sending the cattle to the animal shelter. Steps are being taken to locate the absconding accused Suban and Rehman.
