Flipkart creates 2.5 lakh festive-season jobs, 75,000 for first-time entrants

Flipkart creates 2.5 lakh festive-season jobs, 75,000 for first-time entrants

Posted on September 15, 2026 By admin

Flipkart, India’s home-grown e-commerce major, said on Tuesday it has generated more than 2.5 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities, including gig jobs, ahead of the festive season. Nearly 75,000 of these are first-time entrants to India’s workforce.

The opportunities will be spread across more than 7,000 Ekart facilities, including fulfilment centres, sortation hubs and last-mile delivery operations. Last-mile delivery will account for about 60% of the new opportunities, supported by more than 900 festive delivery hubs and rising demand from Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets. Women account for more than 20% of Flipkart’s supply chain workforce, the company said.

“Commerce at scale creates opportunity at scale, across jobs, livelihoods and entrepreneurship,” said Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Flipkart Group. He said the 75,000 first-time workforce entrants were part of a broader ecosystem emerging around digital commerce.

Flipkart Minutes expands footprint

Flipkart’s quick-commerce business, Flipkart Minutes, has recorded four-fold year-on-year growth and expanded to 1,200 micro-fulfilment centres across more than 150 cities since its launch two years ago.

The platform has created more than 4 lakh direct and indirect jobs since inception, according to Flipkart. About 60% of customers return to shop on Minutes, indicating growing adoption, it said.

Tier 2 and smaller markets are emerging as key growth drivers, with Flipkart’s customer base in these markets growing nearly 25-fold YoY across cities including Ambala, Barabanki, Bhagalpur, Durgapur, Kanpur, Roorkee, Siliguri, Salem and Tirupur.

Demand in these markets is also expanding beyond daily essentials, with consumers increasingly buying Korean noodles, sauces and ready-to-eat meals, as well as premium skincare and personal-care products.

Gen Z drives Minutes growth

Gen Z is the fastest-growing customer segment on Flipkart Minutes, with its customer base increasing nearly five-fold over the past year. The cohort now accounts for more than 45% of orders across categories including beauty, electronics, gaming, wearables, fragrances, health and nutrition, and grooming, Flipkart said.

“In the last two years, Flipkart Minutes has evolved from a convenience offering into a broader shopping channel,” said Kunal Gupta, Senior Vice President and Head of Flipkart Minutes. He said the expanding network would help bring the service to more consumers while creating opportunities for brands, farmers and local businesses.

Flipkart also said its Supply Chain Operations Academy (SCOA) has issued nearly 10,000 certifications ahead of the festive season. The programme offers hands-on exposure to supply chain operations and is being conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, NCVET and ITI Kalyani.

“This year, we are expanding our fulfilment and last-mile network significantly to meet rising customer demand, while creating employment opportunities across the country,” said Hemant Badri, Senior Vice President, Supply Chain, Customer Experience and Re-Commerce, Flipkart Group.
