Automobile wholesales encompassing passenger vehicles (PVs), three-wheelers (3Ws) and two-wheelers (2Ws) recorded the highest-ever numbers of August in 2026, supported by a lower base in the year ago period.

As per data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) in August 2026, the passenger vehicles segment posted sales of 4,39,309 units, reflecting a double-digit growth of 36.5%. Three-wheeler sales during the month recorded 93,764 units, marking a growth of 22.8%, while two-wheeler sales reached 20,34,698 units, showing a growth of 10.5% compared to the same period last year.

“India’s automobile industry is passing through a robust growth phase. The growth in August 2026 has been supported by a lower base from the previous year,” said Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM.

“The broader demand environment remains fundamentally healthy. Strong consumer confidence, resilient rural markets, improving financing conditions, and accelerating adoption of alternative drivetrains are creating a favourable ecosystem across vehicle categories,” he said.

“Festive demand is also expected to provide an additional boost, resulting in healthy Q2 numbers,” Mr. Menon added.

The total production of PVs, 3Ws, 2Ws and Quadricycle in August 2026 was 31,57,822 units, as per SIAM data.
