The Perumbavoor police, probing the alleged murder of a 21-year-old migrant labourer on Monday (September 14, 2026), recorded the arrest of a colleague of the victim.
The arrested person is Mohammed Sahil, 23, of Muzaffarpur in Bihar. He has been charged with murder. The accused was taken into custody on Sunday (September 13, 2026), soon after Muhammed Jahid, also from Muzaffarpur, was found dead in the plywood factory on Old Muvattupuzha Road in Perumbavoor.
Police sources said the accused was detained based on CCTV footage showing him allegedly attacking the victim with a heavy object. The police suspect a personal enmity between the duo led to the crime. The two youths had allegedly engaged in a verbal altercation recently, according to the sources.
“Jahid was last seen sleeping at the factory in the early hours of Sunday [September 13, 2026] after a night shift. His friends later went in search of him when he did not return from the factory. He was found lying between a set of plywood panels and a wall, with injuries on his forehead,” said Perumbavoor Inspector Manuraj G.P. Though Jahid was rushed to the taluk hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.
The police said inquest procedures were on and the postmortem will be held later.
